Winter is upon us and you are thinking of organize your Workation in the Canary Islands and in particular in Fuerteventura?

In this article you will find tips to better organize this working holiday period.

Let's start from the beginning

What is Workation?

Workation Surf
Surfer Puertito de los Molinos

The term derives from the union of English words work (work) + vacation (holidays) = workation.

In essence, they are long holidays where people work while staying in a holiday climate in quotes.

Imagine in December or January to be in Fuerteventura in shorts and t-shirt during the day with average temperatures of twenty-two degrees and to be able to work remotely.

In your free time you will have the feeling of living in a holiday with the possibility of practicing outdoor sports, go to the beach or live an exciting experience on the island by meeting people from all over Europe.

In other parts of Europe this is not always possible.

The cold, the tram of the big cities, the traffic accompany our winter months, making us enter a home-work lifestyle.

The advantage of the climate of the Canary Islands

Lobos Island

As detailed in our post on the climate of the Canary Islands, during the winter months there are temperatures that we can define as spring.

An incredibly dry climate, where it is spring all year round and there are no radiators in the houses (except for the mountain areas of course).

So also a big saving in terms of energy and on the cost of electricity and gas bills.

During the day temperatures reach 25 degrees and in the evening it never drops below 15 degrees.

No winter coats, sweaters, heavy trousers and boots are worn to protect your feet from the winter temperatures.

You live with little, light clothes during the day, t-shirt or blouse, short trousers and the inevitable flip flops.

During the evening, a nice heavy sweatshirt and sneakers for the cold ones.

Hours of daylight in the Canary Islands

El Cotillo sunset

The Canary Islands are one of the regions with the most sunshine hours in Europe, more than 3,000.

It is their geographical position that favors long, sunny days throughout the year.

In winter the sun rises at 7:30 am and sets at 7:30 pm, in summer it is daylight at 7:00 am and night falls at 8:30 pm.

The sun is a fundamental presence in the islands. It affects the climate, everyday life and people's way of being. It has also been shown that it has multiple properties: it is a source of vitamin D, strengthens bones, improves mood, affects the quality of sleep ...

Air links

Connections with the Canary Islands are possible both by air and by sea, as well as it is possible to move between the various islands of the archipelago in the same way.

There are many connections with European airports direct with a stopover in Barcelona or Madrid

The costs in the low season range between 100 and 200 euros round trip.

For Fuerteventura as in the other islands, the costs for plane tickets are relatively low.

Although there has been a price increase in the last year due to the energy crisis, airlines have had to adjust their prices.

However, in the low season it is possible to find very affordable prices even under € 100

Organizing a workation in these periods can save you a lot.

Absolutely yes, however, there are two types of ATMs.

ATMs within financial and banking institutions, and commercial ATMs, installed outside shops.
